The Victorian Government is calling for public feedback on the proposed new Residential Tenancies Regulations.

The proposed regulations released today by Consumer Affairs Victoria will support the new rental laws that will come into effect by 1 July 2020.

The regulations aim to increase protections for renters in public and private rentals, rooming houses, caravan parks and residential parks.

Key regulations for comment include:

  • A list of prohibited (banned) questions that a landlord or agent will be unable to ask you on your rental application to protect you against discrimination
  • What rental minimum standards in rentals will look like
  • Modifications renters can make to rental properties

Read the full suite of proposed regulations and submit your feedback on Engage Victoria here: www.engage.vic.gov.au/rentingregulations (External link).

Note: your submission can be anonymous or attributed to you, and the final regulations will be published in April 2020.

Let the Victorian Government know how the new renting laws will affect your community by providing your written feedback by 5pm on 18 December 2019.
