Victoria’s first Commissioner for Residential Tenancies

Commissioner for Resdidential Tenancies Dr Heather Holst

The Victorian Government appointed Dr Heather Holst, in September 2018, the first time an Australian government had created such a role to hear advice about the needs of renters.

With many years of experience working in the housing, and homelessness sectors as a volunteer, direct service worker, manager and researcher, Dr Holst is a strong champion for the rights of Victorian renters. This includes residents of rooming houses, caravan parks and residential parks.

She has worked in Melbourne and regional Victoria in a wide range of roles with community organisations, including Tenants Victoria and Launch Housing. In these roles, Dr Holst designed and operated a range of housing projects, support programs and rough sleeping solutions.

"I'll champion the rights of Victorian renters, identify key issues and recommend changes to policies, laws and services."
